Sunday Post 6th December

The Sunday Post STSmall_thumb[2]
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, it's a chance to post a recap on the past week, show the books we have received and share what we plan for the coming week. Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and the aim is to show our newest books and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops or downloaded on to their e-reader. As always you can click on any of the pictures to be taken to the Goodreads page for that book if you're interested in finding out more about it.

And so the Christmas countdown begins! Ann and I have the dairy milk advent calendars which we are loving although for some reason all of our "Christmas" chocolate shapes are reminding us a little more of Halloween. So far we've had what looked like a demon elf, a troll we think may have been Santa Claus and something that could have been either a tree or a reindeer we can't be sure.
I finally have all of my Christmas presents bought although I do still need to wrap them! And then all we have to do is wait two more weeks and Christmas is here!

Last Week on the Blog:
Reviews:
Books We Got This Week:
Ann:
A Tale of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens: I know this is Clare's favourite Dickens, and possibly her favourite Classic novel so I am planning to read this soon.

Clare:
Night Study (Soulfinders, #2)South of SunshineThe Beautiful and Damned
Night Study by Maria V. Snyder: I cannot even describe how excited I am to have got this from Netgalley. She is one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait to read this!
South of Sunshine by Dana Elmendorf: Received from Netgalley. Always up for more LGBT reads.
The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald: I wasn't a huge fan of The Great Gatsby (although I did love the film weirdly) but I wanted to try something else by him and this looks like it could be great.

Reading Update:
Ann:
Once again I have been very busy with school work and haven't been able to finish any books. I am hoping to finish a book by Tuesday at the latest.
Clare:
The Perilous Sea (The Elemental Trilogy, #2)The Immortal Heights (The Elemental Trilogy, #3)Hourglass (Hourglass, #1)Timepiece (Hourglass, #2)Infinityglass (Hourglass, #3)
The Perilous Sea by Sherry Thomas: 4 stars, A good installment. I did enjoy the first book slightly more but a lot of that comes down to my general frustration with anything involving memory loss. Really excited for the third book!
The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas: 4.5 stars, A great ending to the series. I'm not sure how I feel about parts of the epilogue but overall I was satisfied with this.
Hourglass by Myra McEntire: 4 stars, I really enjoyed this and I thought the romance and the characters were very well developed. There were plenty of twists but I wanted more from the villain.
Timepiece by Myra McEntire: 4 stars,  A really excellent second book. Plenty of action and character development.
Infinityglass by Myra McEntire: 3.5 stars, Not the strongest of the series but still a really great fun read. I definitely recommend this series and look forward to more from her!

Classics Update:
Daisy MillerThe Hunchback of Notre-Dame
Ann: I have read about 30 pages of Daisy Miller and although it is a difficult read I am enjoying it.
Clare: I am still making very slow progress through The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. I haven't been feeling great this week so I have struggled to motivate myself.

  1. Ann, I definitely know how it feels to be busy with school and not get any reading done. That happens to me all the time! I'm just ready for winter break so I can relax and do all the reading I want.

Hooray for getting Night Study. I've not read that series yet, but I've heard tons of great things about it. Looks like you've got a good week coming up!

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for Sharks this week. :) And the Perilous Sea books- I need to read that series. Every time I see a review of post on those I think they look good, but never seem to get em. I'll have to make that a priority.

I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet.

    1. I did really enjoy The Perilous Sea books, they had a very nostalgic feeling to them for me. They were really great!
I always start my Christmas shopping early because it stresses me out to leave it too late so I am usually done by the time December arrives!
